Context of Exodus 10:17
15The locusts covered all the ground, until the ground became black with locusts. They ate all the plants that grew in the ground, and all the fruit of the trees. They ate everything that the hail had not destroyed. Not one green thing remained on any tree or plant, in all the country of Egypt. 16Then Pharaoh quickly called Moses and Aaron to come to him. He said, ‘I have done bad things against the Lord your God and against you. Please forgive my sins just one more time. Ask the Lord your God to remove this punishment of death from me.’ 18Moses left Pharaoh and he prayed to the Lord. 19Then the Lord changed the wind to a very strong west wind. This wind lifted the locusts up and it blew them away into the Red Sea. Not one locust remained in all the country of Egypt.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 17Forgive, I pray thee, my sin only this once - What a strange case! And what a series of softening and hardening, of sinning and repenting! Had he not now another opportunity of returning to God? But the love of gain, and the gratification of his own self-will and obstinacy, finally prevailed.Read the comment

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 12-20Verses 12-20 God bids Moses stretch out his hand; locusts came at the call. An army might more easily have been resisted than this host of insects. Who then is able to stand before the great God? They covered the face of the earth, and ate up the fruit of it. Herbs grow for the service of man; yet when God pleases, insects shall plunder him, and eat the bread out of his mouth. Let our labour be, not for the habitation and meat thus exposed, but for those…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 17forgive my sin: Pharaoh’s understanding grew deeper. He admitted that his pride and his refusal to keep his word were sins. He understood that sin cannot be ignored. It must be forgiven. However, even though Pharaoh understood this truth, he still refused to obey. His heart (inner attitude) did not change.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 13-1913-19. the Lord brought an east wind--The rod of Moses was again raised, and the locusts came. They are natives of the desert and are only brought by an east wind into Egypt, where they sometimes come in sun-obscuring clouds, destroying in a few days every green blade in the track they traverse. Man, with all his contrivances, can do nothing to protect himself from the overwhelming invasion. Egypt has often suffered from locusts. But the plague that…Read the comment
