15Then King Ahaz commanded Uriah the priest, ‘On the large new altar, offer these gifts: A burnt offering for each morning. A grain offering for each evening. A burnt offering and a grain offering on behalf of the king. A burnt offering on behalf of all the people of Israel. A grain offering and drink offerings on behalf of the people. Splash the blood from all these sacrifices on the new altar. But I will use the bronze altar myself, to find out about my future times.’

Context of 2 Kings 16:15
13He made a burnt offering and a grain offering. He poured wine as a drink offering. He splashed the blood from his peace offerings onto the altar. 14A bronze altar stood in front of the Lord's temple to bring sacrifices to him. Now it stood between the new altar and the front of the temple. So Ahaz moved it away from there. He put it on the north side of the new altar. Then King Ahaz commanded Uriah the priest, ‘On the large new altar, offer these gifts: A burnt offering for each morning. A grain offering for each evening. A burnt offering and a grain offering on behalf of the king. A burnt offering on behalf of all the people of Israel. A grain offering and drink offerings on behalf of the people. Splash the blood from all these sacrifices on the new altar. But I will use the bronze altar myself, to find out about my future times.’ 16So Uriah the priest did what King Ahaz had commanded him to do. 17King Ahaz also removed the pieces on the sides of the carts which carried the buckets for water. He also removed the buckets. He took the large bath called ‘the Sea’ from the top of the bronze bulls that it stood on. He stood it on a big flat stone instead.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 10-16Verses 10-16 God's altar had hitherto been kept in its place, and in use; but Ahaz put another in the room of it. The natural regard of the mind of man to some sort of religion, is not easily extinguished; but except it be regulated by the word, and by the Spirit of God, it produces absurd superstitions, or detestable idolatries. Or, at best, it quiets the sinner's conscience with unmeaning ceremonies. Infidels have often been remarkable for believing…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 15-16Ahaz ordered that the daily sacrifices (Numbers 28:1–8) and the king's and people's offerings be made on the new altar. He then limited the bronze altar to his own private use. The text says this was to seek guidance, likely meaning he intended to use it for pagan divination. This demand showed arrogant disrespect toward the Lord and his worship. Uriah the priest obeyed the king instead of resisting him (2 Kings 16:10–11, 16).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 10-1610-16. And king Ahaz went to Damascus to meet Tiglath-pileser--This was a visit of respect, and perhaps of gratitude. During his stay in that heathen city, Ahaz saw an altar with which he was greatly captivated. Forthwith a sketch of it was transmitted to Jerusalem, with orders to Urijah the priest to get one constructed according to the Damascus model, and let this new altar supersede the old one in the temple. Urijah, with culpable complaisance, acted…Read the comment
