7As we live here, we have to trust God. We do not yet see the things that belong to heaven.
2 Corinthians 5:7 in other versions
Context of 2 Corinthians 5:7
5God is the one who has prepared us to have a new life in heaven one day. He has given his Spirit to be with us now. Because of that, we know that we will receive all God's good things one day. 6Because God's Spirit is with us, we continue to be brave. While we still live here on earth, we know that we are not yet at home with the Lord. As we live here, we have to trust God. We do not yet see the things that belong to heaven. 8We are brave because we trust God. We would like to go away from our body here on earth. Then we would go to be at home with the Lord. And that would be better! 9But all the time we want to please the Lord. We want to do that while we are still at home in our body here on earth. We also want to please him when we go away from these bodies.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 7For we walk by faith - While we are in the present state faith supplies the place of direct vision. In the future world we shall have sight - the utmost evidence of spiritual and eternal things; as we shall be present with them, and live in them. Here we have the testimony of God, and believe in their reality, because we cannot doubt his word. And to make this more convincing he gives us the earnest of his Spirit, which is a foretaste of glory.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 7For we walk - To walk, in the Scriptures often denotes to live, to act, to conduct in a certain way; see the notes on Romans 4:12; Romans 6:4. It has reference to the fact that life is a journey, or a pilgrimage, and that the Christian is traveling to another country. The sense here is, that we conduct ourselves in our course of life with reference to the things which are unseen, and not with reference to the things which are seen. By faith - In the…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 7We know about our future resurrection through faith (see Hebrews 11:1, 3, 27). However, the resurrection of Jesus and the Holy Spirit's presence serve as evidence of what is to come (1 Corinthians 15:1–9; Ephesians 1:14).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 77. we walk--in our Christian course here on earth. not by sight--Greek, "not by appearance." Our life is governed by faith in our immortal hope; not by the outward specious appearance of present things [Tittmann, Greek Synonyms of the New Testament]. Compare "apparently," the Septuagint, "by appearance," Nu 12:8. Wahl supports English Version. 2Co 4:18 also confirms it (compare Ro 8:24; 1Co 13:12, 13).
