Context of 1 Chronicles 9:1
All the Israelites' names were included in the lists of their ancestors. Those lists are written in the history book about Israel's kings. The people of Judah had turned away from the Lord. Their enemies took them away to Babylon as their prisoners. 2The first people who returned to their home towns after that were some priests, Levites, servants in the temple and other Israelites. 3Some people from the tribes of Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim and Manasseh lived in Jerusalem. Those people included: Uthai, son of Ammihud and grandson of Omri. Omri was Imri's son. Imri was Bani's son. Bani was a descendant of Judah's son, Perez.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 1Were reckoned by genealogies - Jarchi considers these as the words of Ezra, the compiler of the book; as if he had said: I have given the genealogies of the Israelites as I have found them in a book which was carried into Babylon, when the people were carried thither for their transgressions; and this book which I found is that which I have transcribed in the preceding chapters.Read the comment

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 1Genealogies. --This chapter expresses that one end of recording all these genealogies was, to direct the Jews, when they returned out of captivity, with whom to unite, and where to reside. Here is an account of the good state into which the affairs of religion were put, on the return from Babylon. Every one knew his charge. - Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1The statement that all Israel was listed in the genealogical records highlights the Chronicler’s main idea. It shows that all Israel was represented by the Judean community during the Chronicler's time, maintaining a connection with Israel’s past. The Book of the Kings of Israel was a source document used by the authors of both Kings and Chronicles, but it is now lost (see also study note on 1 Kings 14:19–20).
