Context of Jeremiah 52:14
12King Nebuchadnezzar had an officer whose name was Nebuzaradan. He was the captain of the king's royal guards. Nebuzaradan came to Jerusalem when Nebuchadnezzar had ruled Babylon for 19 years. It was on the tenth day of the fifth month. 13Nebuzaradan destroyed the Lord's temple, the king's palace and all the other houses in Jerusalem. He burned them all with fire, so that he destroyed every important building in the city. Then Nebuzaradan commanded his whole army to knock down the walls around Jerusalem. 15Captain Nebuzaradan sent away as prisoners some of the poor people and the rest of the people who remained in Jerusalem. He also sent away those people who had agreed to serve the king of Babylon, and the workers who had special skills. 16But he let some of the poorest people stay there. He gave them vineyards and fields to work in.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 12-23Verses 12-23 The Chaldean army made woful havoc. But nothing is so particularly related here, as the carrying away of the articles in the temple. The remembrance of their beauty and value shows us the more the evil of sin.Read the comment

The Babylonian looters broke large metal items into pieces to load them onto wagons and transport them. Each pillar was eighteen cubits tall and twelve cubits in circumference; each was hollow, four fingers thick: These words are added to the 2 Kings 25 text.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1-34(See on Jr 51:64). Jeremiah, having already (thirty-ninth and fortieth chapters) given the history in the proper place, was not likely to repeat it here. Its canonical authority as inspired is shown by its being in the Septuagint version. It contains the capture and burning of Jerusalem, &c., Zedekiah's punishment, and the better treatment of Jehoiachin under Evil-merodach, down to his death. These last events were probably subsequent to Jeremiah's time…Read the comment
