Context of 1 Chronicles 16:36
34Thank the Lord, because he is good. His faithful love will always be with us. 35Say to him, ‘God, you are the one who rescues us! Please save us now! Bring us safely home from among the other nations. Then we will thank you! We will shout aloud to praise your holy name.’ Praise the Lord, Israel's God, as he deserves! Praise him now and for ever! Then all the people said, ‘Amen! We agree! Praise the Lord!’ 37King David had chosen Asaph and his relatives to serve the Lord at the Covenant Box. They must do that each day, as the rules said that they should do. 38They included Obed-Edom and 68 men from his clan. Jeduthun's son, Obed-Edom and Hosah were guards at the entrance of the tent.

Commentaries on 1 Chronicles 16:36
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 4-42Verses 4-42 This passage is interposed by the writer of Chronicles between two sentences of the parallel passage in Samuel. It contains a detailed account of the service which David instituted at this time, a service out of which grew the more elaborate service of the temple. The language of much of the passage is remarkably archaic, and there can be no reasonable doubt that it is in the main an extract from a record of the time of David. 1 Chronicles…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 7-36Verses 7-36 Let God be glorified in our praises. Let others be edified and taught, that strangers to him may be led to adore him. Let us ourselves triumph and trust in God. Those that give glory to God's name are allowed to glory in it. Let the everlasting covenant be the great matter of our joy his people of old, be remembered by us with thankfulness to him. Show forth from day to day his salvation, his promised salvation by Christ. We have reason to…Read the comment

- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 3636. all the people said, Amen--(Compare Psa 72:19, 20; 106:48). In the former, the author of the doxology utters the "amen" himself, while in the latter the people are exhorted to say "amen." This may arise from the fact that the latter psalm originally concluded with the injunction to say "amen." But in this historical account of the festival, it was necessary to relate that the people obeyed this injunction on the occasion referred to, and therefore the…Read the comment
