Context of Revelation 1:9
7Behold, he comes with the clouds, and every eye shall see him, and they which have pierced him, and all the tribes of the land shall wail because of him. Yea. Amen. 8I am the Alpha and the Omega, saith [the] Lord God, he who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty. I John, your brother and fellow-partaker in the tribulation and kingdom and patience, in Jesus, was in the island called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus. 10I became in [the] Spirit on the Lord's day, and I heard behind me a great voice as of a trumpet, 11saying, What thou seest write in a book, and send to the seven assemblies: to Ephesus, and to Smyrna, and to Pergamos, and to Thyatira, and to Sardis, and to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 9I John, who also am your brother - Your Christian brother; who am a fellow-Christian with you. The reference here is doubtless to the members of the seven churches in Asia, to whom the epistles in the following chapters were addressed, and to whom the whole book seems to have been sent. In the previous verse, the writer had closed the salutation, and he here commences a description of the circumstances under which the vision appeared to him. He was in a…Read the comment

Here, with similar humility, though naming himself, he does not…Read the comment
