Context of Psalms 86:15
13For great is thy loving-kindness toward me, and thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest Sheol. 14O God, the proud are risen against me, and the assembly of the violent seek after my soul, and they have not set thee before them. But thou, Lord, art a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in goodness and truth. 16Turn toward me, and be gracious unto me; give thy strength unto thy servant, and save the son of thine handmaid. 17Shew me a token for good, that they which hate me may see it, and be ashamed; for thou, Jehovah, hast helped me and comforted me.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 15But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion - See the notes at Psalm 86:5. The words rendered “long-suffering” mean that there was and would be delay in his anger; that it was not soon excited; that he did not act from passion or sudden resentment; that he endured the conduct of sinners long without rising up to punish them; that he was not quick to take vengeance, but bore with them patiently. On this account the psalmist, though conscious that he…Read the comment
