Context of Psalms 84:12

10For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather stand at the threshold of the house of my God, than dwell in the tents of wickedness. 11For Jehovah Elohim is a sun and shield: Jehovah will give grace and glory; no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. Jehovah of hosts, blessed is the man that confideth in thee!

• Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 8-12Verses 8-12 In all our addresses to God, we must desire that he would look on Christ, his Anointed One, and accept us for his sake: we must look to Him with faith, and then God will with favour look upon the face of the Anointed: we, without him, dare not show our faces. The psalmist pleads love to God's ordinances. • Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-12The psalmist deeply longs for God's presence. He feels weak with longing as he thinks about the temple and the pilgrims traveling to Jerusalem (Psalm 84:1–7). He prays for himself and the community (Psalm 84:8–9). The end of the psalm (Psalm 84:10–12) shows that the temple represents God. The psalmist truly desires God's presence. He understands that God's goodness is better than life and that only God can grant his people favor and honor (Psalm 84:10–11).Read the comment
