Context of Psalms 73:23
21When my heart was in a ferment, and I was pricked in my reins, 22Then I was brutish and knew nothing; I was [as] a beast with thee. Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden my right hand; 24Thou wilt guide me by thy counsel, and after the glory, thou wilt receive me. 25Whom have I in the heavens? and there is none upon earth I desire beside thee.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 23Nevertheless, I am continually with thee - I am kept by thee in the land of the living; I am permitted to abide in thy presence; I am allowed to hope in thy mercy. Notwithstanding my low and unworthy views, notwithstanding my doubts about the justice of the divine administration, notwithstanding my envy at the prosperity of the wicked, and my spirit of complaining against God, I am not driven away from God; I am not banished from his presence, or cut off…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 21-28Verses 21-28 God would not suffer his people to be tempted, if his grace were not sufficient, not only to save them from harm, but to make them gainers by it. This temptation, the working of envy and discontent, is very painful. In reflecting upon it, the psalmist owns it was his folly and ignorance thus to vex himself. If good men, at any time, through the surprise and strength of temptation, think, or speak, or act amiss, they will reflect upon it with…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-28This wisdom psalm looks at the injustice of the prosperity of the wicked. The psalmist states that God is good to the godly, but his own experience is different (Psalm 73:2–12). Almost overwhelmed by doubt (Psalm 73:13–16), the psalmist meets the Lord in the sanctuary. This meeting gives him a broader view and renews his trust in God (Psalm 73:17–26). His troubling doubts lead to a stronger desire for truth. He knows he can trust God and that God will…Read the comment
