Context of Psalms 71:4
2Deliver me in thy righteousness, and rescue me; incline thine ear unto me, and save me. 3Be to me a rock of habitation, whereunto I may continually resort: thou hast given commandment to save me; for thou art my rock and my fortress. My God, rescue me out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man. 5For thou art my hope, O Lord Jehovah, my confidence from my youth. 6On thee have I been stayed from the womb; from the bowels of my mother thou didst draw me forth: my praise shall be continually of thee.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 4Out of the hand of the wicked - Probably his unnatural son Absalom, called here רשע rasha, the Wicked, because he had violated all laws, human and Divine. The unrighteous and cruel man - Probably Ahithophel who was the iniquitous counsellor of a wicked and rebellious son.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 4Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked - It is, of course, not possible now to ascertain who are particularly referred to here. If David was the author of the psalm, they may have been any of the numerous enemies that he had in his life. Out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man - Hebrew, “out of the palm.” This means here the same as hand, and refers to the “grasp” which anyone makes in taking hold of a thing by the hand.Read the comment
