Context of 1 Kings 7:4
2And he built the house of the forest of Lebanon; its length was a hundred cubits, and its breadth fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits, upon four rows of cedar-pillars, with cedar-beams upon the pillars; 3and it was covered with cedar above upon the side-chambers, which were on forty-five pillars, fifteen in a row. And there were cross-beams in three rows, and window was against window in three ranks. 5And all the doors and posts were square, with an architrave; and window was against window in three ranks. 6And he made the porch of pillars; its length was fifty cubits, and its breadth thirty cubits; and there was a porch in front of them; and there were pillars, and steps in front of them.

Commentaries on 1 Kings 7:4
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 4Either three ranges of windows, one above the other, on either side of the house; or perhaps the three ranges were one in either side wall, and the third in a wall down the middle of the hall, along the course of the midmost row of pillars. The windows were directly opposite one another, giving what we call a through light.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 2-5The House of the Forest of Lebanon got its name because it used a lot of cedar wood. It held 300 gold shields (1 Kings 10:16–17) and likely served as both a treasury and an armory (see 1 Kings 12:25–28; Isaiah 22:8). The Egyptian pharaoh Shishak later took the shields as loot (1 Kings 14:27).Read the comment
