Context of Micah 6:16
14You will eat but not be satisfied, for there will be hunger within you. What you acquire, you cannot save, and what you do save, I will give to the sword. 15You will sow but not reap; you will press olives but not anoint yourself with oil; and you will tread grapes but not drink the wine. The statutes of Omri and all the practices of Ahab’s house have been observed; you have followed their policies. Therefore, I will make you a desolate place and the city’s residents an object of contempt; you will bear the scorn of my people.”

Commentaries on Micah 6:16
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 16The statutes of Omri are kept - Omri, king of Israel, the father of Ahab, was one of the worst kings the Israelites ever had; and Ahab followed in his wicked father's steps. The statutes of those kings were the very grossest idolatry. Jezebel, wife of the latter, and daughter of Ithobaal, king of Tyre, had no fellow on earth. From her Shakespeare seems to have drawn the character of Lady Macbeth; a woman, like her prototype, mixed up of tigress and fiend…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 16For the statutes of Omri are kept - Rather, (like the English margin he doth much keep,) And he doth keep diligently for himself. Both ways express much diligence in evil. To “keep God‘s commandments” was the familiar phrase, in which Israel was exhorted, by every motive of hope and fear, to obedience to God. “I know him,” God says of Abraham, “that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 9-16Verses 9-16 God, having showed how necessary it was that they should do justly, here shows how plain it was that they had done unjustly. This voice of the Lord says to all, Hear the rod when it is coming, before you see it, and feel it. Hear the rod when it is come, and you are sensible of the smart; hear what counsels, what cautions it speaks. The voice of God is to be heard in the rod of God. Those who are dishonest in their dealings shall never be…Read the comment

Elijah predicted their destruction (2 Kings 10:17). No northern kings of Israel followed the laws of Moses (see Micah 1:5–6). Omri and his son Ahab were the worst of the evil kings (for example, 1 Kings 18:4; 21:1–26). Omri’s family line of kings was destroyed by Jehu, whom the Lord appointed to judge the royal house of…Read the comment
