Context of Isaiah 59:12
10We grope along a wall like the blind; we grope like those without eyes. We stumble at noon as though it were twilight; we are like the dead among those who are healthy. 11We all growl like bears and moan like doves. We hope for justice, but there is none; for salvation, but it is far from us. For our transgressions have multiplied before you, and our sins testify against us. For our transgressions are with us, and we know our iniquities: 13transgression and deception against the Lord, turning away from following our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering lying words from the heart. 14Justice is turned back, and righteousness stands far off. For truth has stumbled in the public square, and honesty cannot enter.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 12Our sins testify against us - Hebrew, Answer against us.‘ The idea is, that their past lives had been so depraved that they became witnesses against them (compare the notes at Isaiah 3:9). We know them - We recognize them as our sins, and we cannot conceal from ourselves the fact that we are transgressors.Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 9-15Verses 9-15 If we shut our eyes against the light of Divine truth, it is just with God to hide from our eyes the things that belong to our peace. The sins of those who profess themselves God's people, are worse than the sins of others. And the sins of a nation bring public judgments, when not restrained by public justice. Men may murmur under calamities, but nothing will truly profit while they reject Christ and his gospel.Read the comment
