Context of Isaiah 57:12
10You became weary on your many journeys, but you did not say, “It’s hopeless!” You found a renewal of your strength; therefore you did not grow weak. 11Who was it you dreaded and feared, so that you lied and didn’t remember me or take it to heart? I have kept silent for a long time, haven’t I? So you do not fear me. I will announce your righteousness, and your works — they will not profit you. 13When you cry out, let your collection of idols rescue you! The wind will carry all of them off, a breath will take them away. But whoever takes refuge in me will inherit the land and possess my holy mountain. 14He said, “Build it up, build it up, prepare the way, remove every obstacle from my people’s way.”

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 12I will declare thy righteousness - This is evidently spoken ironically. The sense is, you have devoted yourselves to idols, and you have sought the aid of foreigners. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 3-12Verses 3-12 The Lord here calls apostates and hypocrites to appear before him. When reproved for their sins, and threatened with judgments, they ridiculed the word of God. The Jews were guilty of idolatry before the captivity; but not after that affliction. Their zeal in the worship of false gods, may shame our indifference in the worship of the true God. The service of sin is disgraceful slavery; those who thus debase themselves to hell, will justly have…Read the comment
