Context of Daniel 2:46
44In the days of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will shatter all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, but will itself stand forever. 45And just as you saw a stone being cut out of the mountain without human hands, and it shattered the iron, bronze, clay, silver, and gold, so the great God has told the king what will happen in the future. The dream is true, and its interpretation is trustworthy.” At this, King Nebuchadnezzar fell on his face, paid homage to Daniel, and ordered that an offering and incense be presented to him. 47The king said to Daniel, “Your God is truly the God of gods and Lord of kings, the Revealer of Mysteries, since you were able to reveal this mystery.” 48Then the king promoted Daniel and gave him many generous gifts. He made him ruler over the entire province of Babylon and chief administrator over all the wise men of Babylon.

Commentaries on Daniel 2:46
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 46The king - fell upon his face - Prostrated himself: this was the fullest act of adoration among the ancients. Worshipped Daniel - Supposing him to be a god, or Divine being. No doubt Daniel forbade him; for to receive this would have been gross idolatry.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 46Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face - This was the common method of signifying profound respect among the Orientals. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 46-49Verses 46-49 It is our business to direct attention to the Lord, as the Author and Giver of every good gift. Many have thoughts of the Divine power and majesty, who do not think of serving God themselves. - Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 46The Aramaic word segid is sometimes translated as "worshiped," but in this verse, it can also mean "paid him homage or honor." Nebuchadnezzar was a pagan who believed in many gods. He believed that the spirit of the gods was in Daniel (Daniel 4:8; compare 5:11). Because of this, he believed that Daniel’s abilities came from a powerful divine spirit, not from ordinary human skill (compare Genesis 41:38).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 4646. fell upon ... face, and worshipped Daniel--worshipping God in the person of Daniel. Symbolical of the future prostration of the world power before Messiah and His kingdom (Php 2:10). As other servants of God refused such honors (Ac 10:25, 26; 14:13-15; Re 22:8, 9), and Daniel (Da 1:8) would not taste defiled food, nor give up prayer to God at the cost of his life (Da 6:7, 10), it seems likely that Daniel rejected the proffered divine honors. The word…Read the comment
