Context of 2 Kings 8:22
20In the days of Jehoram, Edom rebelled against the hand of Judah and appointed their own king. 21So Jehoram crossed over to Zair with all his chariots. When the Edomites surrounded him and his chariot commanders, he rose up and attacked by night. His troops, however, fled to their homes. So to this day Edom has been in rebellion against the hand of Judah. Likewise, Libnah rebelled at the same time. 23As for the rest of the acts of Jehoram, along with all his accomplishments, are they not written in the book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? 24And Jehoram rested with his fathers and was buried with them in the City of David. And his son Ahaziah reigned in his place.

Commentaries on 2 Kings 8:22
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 22Libnah revolted - Libnah being toward the southwest of Palestine Joshua 15:42, its revolt cannot well have had any direct connection with that of Edom. It had been the capital of a small Canaanite state under a separate king before its conquest by Joshua Joshua 10:30; Joshua 12:15, and may perhaps always have retained a considerable Canaanite population. Or its loss may have been connected with the attacks made by the Philistines on Jehoram‘s territories…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 16-24Verses 16-24 A general idea is given of Jehoram's badness. His father, no doubt, had him taught the true knowledge of the Lord, but did ill to marry him to the daughter of Ahab; no good could come of union with an idolatrous family.Read the comment
