Context of Psalms 9:4
2I will rejoice and exult in you; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High. 3When my enemies turn back, They stumble and perish before You. For You have maintained my right and my cause; You have sat on the throne judging righteously. 5You have rebuked the nations, You have destroyed the wicked and unrepentant; You have wiped out their name forever and ever. 6The enemy has been cut off and has vanished in everlasting ruins, You have uprooted their cities; The very memory of them has perished.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 4For thou hast maintained my right and my cause - My righteous cause; that is, when he was unequally attacked. When his enemies came upon him in an unprovoked and cruel manner, God had interposed and had defended his cause.
