Context of Psalms 45:6
4And in Your majesty ride on triumphantly For the cause of truth and humility and righteousness; Let Your right hand guide You to awesome things. 5Your arrows are sharp; The peoples (nations) fall under You; Your arrows pierce the hearts of the King’s enemies. Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; The scepter of uprightness is the scepter of Your kingdom. 7You have loved righteousness (virtue, morality, justice) and hated wickedness; Therefore God, your God, has anointed You Above Your companions with the oil of jubilation. 8All Your garments are fragrant with myrrh, aloes and cassia; From ivory palaces stringed instruments have made You glad.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 6Thy throne, O God, is for ever - ועד עולם אלהים כסאך kisacha Elohim olam vaed . "O God, thy throne is for ever, and eternal!" The word Elohim here is the very first term or name by which the Supreme God has made himself known to the children of men. See Genesis 1:1; and this very verse the apostle, Hebrews 1:8, has applied to Jesus Christ. On this I shall make a very short remark, but it shall be conclusive: If the apostle did not believe Jesus Christ to…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 6Thy throne, O God, is forever and ever - This passage is quoted by the author of the Epistle to the Hebrews in proof that the Messiah is exalted above the angels, and it is, beyond all question, adduced by him as having original reference to the Messiah. See the passage explained at length in the notes at Hebrews 1:8. I do not perceive, after an interval of nearly twenty years since those notes were written, that it is necessary to alter or to add…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 6-9Verses 6-9 The throne of this almighty King is established for ever. The Mediator is God, else he had been neither able to do the Mediator's work, nor fit to wear the Mediator's crown.
