2Blessed and favored by God are those who keep His testimonies, And who [consistently] seek Him and long for Him with all their heart. 3They do no unrighteousness; They walk in His ways. You have ordained Your precepts, That we should follow them with [careful] diligence. 5Oh, that my ways may be established To observe and keep Your statutes [obediently accepting and honoring them]! 6Then I will not be ashamed When I look [with respect] to all Your commandments [as my guide].

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 4Thou hast commanded - All this is here traced to the command of God; to the fact that he has required it. It is not mere human prudence; it is not mere morality; it is not because it will be for our interest; it is because God requires it. This is the foundation of all true virtue; and until a man acts from this motive it cannot be said that he is in the proper sense a righteous man.
