Context of Job 30:27
25Did I not weep for one whose life was hard and filled with trouble? Was not my heart grieved for the needy? 26When I expected good, then came evil [to me]; And when I waited for light, then came darkness. I am seething within and my heart is troubled and cannot rest; Days of affliction come to meet me. 28I go about mourning without comfort [my skin blackened by disease, not by the heat of the sun]; I stand up in the assembly and cry out for help. 29I am a brother to [howling] jackals, And a companion to ostriches [which scream dismally].

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 27My bowels boiled - Or rather, My bowels boil - for he refers to his present circumstances, and not to the past. It is clear that by this phrase he designs to describe deep affliction. The bowels, in the Scriptures, are represented as the seat of the affections. By this is meant the upper bowels, or the region of the heart and the lungs. The reason is, that deep emotions of the mind are felt there. The heart beats quick; or it is heavy and pained; or it…Read the comment

When inward temptations join with outward calamities, the soul is hurried as in a tempest, and is filled with confusion. But woe be to those who really have God for an enemy! Compared with the awful state of ungodly men, what are all outward, or even inward temporal afflictions? There is something with which Job comforts…Read the comment
