Context of Job 14:15
13“Oh, that You would hide me in Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead), That You would conceal me until Your wrath is past, That You would set a definite time and then remember me [and in Your lovingkindness imprint me on your heart]! 14If a man dies, will he live again? I will wait all the days of my struggle Until my change and release will come. [Then] You will call, and I will answer You; You will long for [me] the work of Your hands. 16But now You number [each of] my steps; You do not observe nor take note of my sin. 17My transgression is sealed up in a bag, And You cover my wickedness [from Your view].

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 15Thou shalt call - Thou shalt say There shall be time no longer: Awake, ye dead! and come to judgment! And I will answer thee - My dissolved frame shall be united at thy call; and body and soul shall be rejoined. Thou wilt have a desire - תכסף tichsoph, "Thou wilt pant with desire;" or, "Thou wilt yearn over the work of thy hands." God has subjected the creature to vanity, in hope; having determined the resurrection. Man is one of the noblest works of God…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 15Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee - This is language taken from courts of justice. It refers, probably, not to a future time, but to the present. “Call thou now, and I will respond.” It expresses a desire to come at once to trial; to have the matter adjusted before he should leave the world. He could not bear the idea of going out of the world under the imputations which were lying on him, and he asked for an opportunity to vindicate himself before…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 7-15Verses 7-15 Though a tree is cut down, yet, in a moist situation, shoots come forth, and grow up as a newly planted tree. But when man is cut off by death, he is for ever removed from his place in this world. The life of man may fitly be compared to the waters of a land flood, which spread far, but soon dry up. All Job's expressions here show his belief in the great doctrine of the resurrection. Job's friends proving miserable comforters, he pleases…Read the comment

It is objected that if Job knew of a future retribution, he would make it the leading topic in solving the problem of the permitted…Read the comment
