Context of 2 Kings 16:20
18He removed from the house of the Lord the covered way for the Sabbath which they had built in the house, and the outer entrance of the king, because of the king of Assyria [who might confiscate them]. 19Now the rest of the acts of Ahaz, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? So Ahaz slept with his fathers [in death] and was buried with his fathers in the City of David; and his son Hezekiah became king in his place.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 20Was buried with his fathers in the city of David - But it is expressly declared, 2 Chronicles 28:27, that he was not buried in the sepulchres of the kings of Israel; and this was undoubtedly intended as a mark of degradation. His reign was disastrous and impious; and it was disastrous because it was impious. He had been a scourge, not a blessing, to his people. He had not only made illegal alterations in the temple, and in the mode of worship prescribed…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 17-20Verses 17-20 Ahaz put contempt upon the sabbath, and thus opened a wide inlet to all manner of sin. This he did for the king of Assyria.
