There are many whose hearts are aching under a load of care because they seek to reach the world’s standard. They have chosen its service, accepted its perplexities, adopted its customs. Thus their character is marred and their life made a weariness. The continual worry is wearing out the life forces. Our Lord desires them to lay aside this yoke of bondage. He invites them to accept His yoke; He says, “My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.” Worry is blind and cannot discern the future; but Jesus sees the end from the beginning. In every difficulty He has His way prepared to bring relief. “No good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly.” Matthew 11:30; Psalm 84:11.Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 4 (1883 - 1886)

If our active temperament gathers in a large amount of work that we have not strength nor the grace of Christ to do understandingly and with order and exactitude, everything we undertake shows imperfection, and the work is constantly marred. God is not glorified however good the motive. There is a want of wisdom which is too plainly revealed. The worker complains of constantly having too heavy burdens to bear, when God is not pleased with his taking these burdens; and he makes his own life one of worriment and anxiety, and weariness because he will not learn the lessons Christ has given him, to wear His yoke and bear His burdens, rather than the yoke and burdens of his own creating. Christ says, “My yoke is easy, My burden is light.” [Matthew 11:30.] Then let every extra burden be left for Jesus, and all the necessary burdens He will also take and bear them, and us too.Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 7 (1891-1892)

Christ declares His yoke to be easy and His burden light. [Matthew 11:30.] Through Jesus Christ you can wear the yoke gracefully. If you exalt yourself, then you will place yourself where it will be necessary for the Lord to abase you. If you humble yourself at every step, Jesus will lift you up, but let Jesus do all the lifting up and remember that Jesus always bears the heavy end of the yoke. Then if you are laborers together with God, you have a divine Helper at every step. You can be in the world and not be of the world, pure in heart, full of the milk of human kindness, keeping the way of the Lord, to do justice and love mercy and walk humbly with God.Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 8 (1893)

If you are pressing onward and upward, seeking to attain new heights in education and in spiritual things, you will have discernment to understand that which is required of you. You will have the Holy Spirit to help all your infirmities. The education you have had in the past has not been the most favorable toward your developing a character after the order of Christ’s character. It is natural for you to love amusement, to live a life of gaiety, free from all responsibility, and it is hard for you because of this tendency, to put yourself under discipline to God. But if you will place your neck beneath the yoke of Jesus, as He has invited you to do, you will find that all your thoughts are brought into captivity to Christ, and you will exclaim, “His yoke is easy, and his burden is light.” [Matthew 11:30.]Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 9 (1894)

You are not to groan and complain, but be learners in the school of Christ of His meekness and lowliness. We want to bear His yoke. He says that it is easy and that His burden is light. [Matthew 11:30.] And if you have found it so, you know just how to catch the strains as the angel leads the heavenly choir. You will take the golden harp and fill all heaven with rich music to the Lamb. “Worthy, worthy is the Lamb that was slain for our transgression.” You will cast your glittering crowns at His feet.Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 11 (1896)

This is a lesson to all in their spiritual experience. What an amount of worry would be saved if men would only trust in God. The bread of life is to be given to needy souls. And what a work is often made of the matter. There are long councils for devising plans, inventing new methods. There is a constant effort to get up entertainments to draw people to the church or the Sabbath school. Like the disciples the workers raise the question, Shall we go unto the villages and buy? What is the work to be done? Come unto Jesus. Humble faith and prayer will accomplish very much more than your long councils. Listen to the Saviour’s invitation. Put your neck under His yoke. Accept His burdens. Receive that which He bestows. He says, “My yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” [Matthew 11:30.]Life Sketches of Ellen G. White

It is high time to awake out of sleep, to cast off the arm of Satan, and call upon Him who never slumbers or sleeps. The Lord desires that man shall break his connection with Satan and link up with Christ. The mistakes of the past have been enough. Through them minds have been confused, precious opportunities have been neglected, and time which is of more value than gold has been wasted. God wants us now to link up with Christ, to wear His yoke in meekness and lowliness of heart, for He says, “My yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” [Matthew 11:30.]Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 15 (1900)

Christ says, “My yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” [Matthew 11:30.] True love to God aids the Christian to work without friction. Christs yoke does not gall. We must not allow ourselves to become so weary that we easily lose our self-control. When we lose self-control, we speak without due reverence or respect for one another. We are Christ’s representatives, and our words must be well chosen. They must be words that will bless and encourage those who hear. How many ways there are in which we can co-operate with the Saviour by bearing one another’s burdens! As we wear Christ’s yoke of restraint and obedience, and learn of Him His meekness and lowliness, we shall find rest. We must have on the whole armor; for the very ones who ought to stand as strong men reveal that they are as weak as children. Thinking that they must magnify their own opinions, they are becoming weaker and weaker; Satan is obtaining victories over them which place them where they cannot be regarded as reliable in emergencies. They are losing continually, when they might have the strength which God alone can give if they would learn of Christ to be meek and lowly. “My yoke is easy and My burden is light,” He declares. [Matthew 11:30.] When men surrender their wills to His will, they yoke up with Him and gain victory in every conflict. His yoke is easy. Let every soul yield to the heavenly power and learn of Him who hath invited us: Learn of Me, for I am meek and lowly of heart, and ye shall find rest unto your souls. In thus doing, an experience is gained of more value than silver and precious stones. “For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.” [Matthew 11:30.] Why, if we only learn this precious lesson we can never give way to hasty speech, for love of Christ in its hallowed influences reveals a sacred peace. The love of Christ wells up in the soul and flows through the soul like a stream in the desert, refreshing all who have any association with the human agent. Wherever the love and peace of Jesus reigns, there is peace with God. We all need to be seeking the eternal good of all we are associated with. You can have a little heaven here below, if you will only get your eye fixed upon God—not looking at Christ half the time and at the world the other half. When you live for God, He will put His everlasting arm beneath you, and then He says, “My yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:30). Do you believe it? I can testify this is so. By my past experience I can testify that I would not [want to] have one trial less, one sorrow less, for Paul says, “Our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen” (2 Corinthians 4:17, 18). We want to look at the things of eternal interest, that we may think seriously in regard to what use we have made of our reasoning powers, whether we have tried to strengthen them with idle things which we cannot take with us when we shall be caught up to meet Christ in the air....From Here to Forever

“He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.” Proverbs 28:13. If those who excuse their faults could see how Satan taunts Christ with their course, they would confess their sins and put them away. Satan works to gain control of the whole mind, and he knows that if defects are cherished, he will succeed. Therefore he constantly seeks to deceive the followers of Christ with his fatal sophistry that it is impossible for them to overcome. But Jesus declared to all who would follow Him: “My grace is sufficient for thee.” “My yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” 2 Corinthians 12:9; Matthew 11:30. We may talk of the blessings of the Holy Spirit, and pray in regard to receiving them; but unless the human agent is worked by the Spirit of God, he reveals that he has Him not. When the Spirit molds and fashions the character after the divine similitude, He will be unmistakably revealed in every word we speak and in everything we do, showing to the world that there is a marked difference between the children of light and the children of darkness. The Lord wants us to stand stiffly for the faith once delivered to the saints. We are to speak the truth in love. Our great Teacher says, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” [Matthew 11:29, 30.] Selfishness and sharpness will creep into the character if we are not faithful sentinels over ourselves. Right principles are to be strenuously maintained by the people who claim to be the chosen of God. The work in our institutions is to be as open as the day. The people have a perfect right to know what is done in these institutions. They are not to be left in ignorance as to how the money they donate to the cause of God is appropriated. And those in positions of responsibility in our institutions are not to grasp the highest wages. Do not repeat the experience of the last fifteen years. Christ says, “Learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart, and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” [Matthew 11:29, 30.] That which makes the burden so grievously heavy is when we meet the influence of men who have an intense desire to be original, to bring in a new order of things. Men who know little of practical godliness and true Christian service have been placed first as leaders.15LtMs, Lt 106, 1900, par. 12
Christ’s atonement includes the whole human family. No one, high or low, rich or poor, free or bond, has been left out of the plan of redemption. “God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” [John 3:16.] The duty of God’s stewards is to represent Christ, to stimulate men to rise from the atmosphere of worldliness to the pure atmosphere of heaven. Men and women need to realize day by day that Christ is their Pattern. They are to follow His footsteps. He says, “Learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart.” [Matthew 11:29.] This is the great practical lesson which is to be thoroughly and intelligently learned.Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 15 (1900)

The covenant of agreement in church membership is that each member [will] walk in the footsteps of Christ, that all will take His yoke upon them, and learn of Him who is meek and lowly of heart. They will cultivate sympathy, and forbearance, and in holy emulation will strive to show to others the tender sympathy and love of which they feel such great need themselves. If you do not comply with the conditions Christ has laid down, you will never know the joy of rest in Christ. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” [Matthew 11:29, 30.] Strive to represent Christ correctly in your ministry. It is not for your soul’s interest to exercise the authority that you have exercised over those who have accepted the Truth under your labors. Please remember that you need to be controlled by the Holy Spirit. The day is coming in which, with characters perfect or imperfect, we must all stand before the tribunal of heaven.Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 16 (1901)

Brother Santee, yoke up with Christ. He says, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” [Matthew 11:29, 30.] I am instructed that unless Brother Santee shall make changes in his attitude and spirit, unless he feels less self-confidence, he will have trouble. Learn, my dear brother, in the school of Christ. He says, “Without me ye can do nothing.” [John 15:5.] I would be much pleased to see you standing in the attitude spoken of by David: “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.” [Psalm 121:1, 2.]
