“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might.” [Ephesians 6:10.] Never fear to speak the word of truth as it is given in the Scriptures. “Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” [Verse 11.] There is no end to his delusive representations; therefore we must watch, we must pray, and we must give no occasion, in word or spirit, for Satan to gain the advantage over us. “We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” [Verse 12.] Keep a firm hold on your Saviour, and seek earnestly to draw with Him, wearing constantly His yoke of humility, meekness, and lowliness.21LtMs, Lt 36, 1906, par. 4
“We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” [Verse 12.] I think I never discerned so fully the meaning of these words as I have for a few days back. I have been wrestling with all the power I could command to secure vantage ground. My physical strength has seemed to be hampered and my mind bound; but the spell has been broken. How?—I have striven to obey the words, “Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” [Verse 13.] I have seen that we must do all we possibly can to obtain victory in the Lord.21LtMs, Lt 36, 1906, par. 5
These words I am speaking to you in the night season. I am told that you are to be strong in the Lord. “Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness, and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace.” [Verses 14, 15.] O how much is comprehended in these words. They are repeated to me in the night season, and I am directed to write them.21LtMs, Lt 36, 1906, par. 6
“Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; and for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel.” [Verses 16-19.]Ephesians 6:10-20

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” [Ephesians 6:10-12.] Here are the foes whom we have to meet, and we are to realize that satanic agencies are constantly at work. The enemy will insinuate himself at every point where he is given the least chance. He has been presenting his fascinating, delusive theories, clothed in the garments of heaven, to Dr. Kellogg and his associate physicians, who have accepted them. They have been watchmen who have been altogether too much at ease, eating of the fruit of the forbidden tree. All must watch now as never before, else these spiritualistic ideas will steal a march upon us. I am instructed to bear a decided message, to wake up the watchmen, that they may be on guard. Let those who know the truth keep their Bibles in their hands, declaring as did Christ, “It is written.” The men who stand as God’s messengers in these last days are to be minute men. With unceasing vigilance they are to guard the fort. It is dangerous to sleep on guard; for thus the whole work and cause of God will be imperilled. There is no time now to sleep, lest Satan steal a march upon us. We cannot afford to lean upon a broken staff.20LtMs, Lt 320, 1905, par. 27
“Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” “Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; and for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in bonds; that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.” [Verses 11, 13-20.]Ephesians 6:10-24

I address the Seventh-day Adventist churches. The Lord is coming. I am bidden to call upon the churches to awake out of sleep. We must contend with invisible, supernatural foes. God bids me to say to you, “Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” [Ephesians 6:11.] Your only safety is in placing yourself in the channel of divine light, and associating with those who are striving for that life which measures with the life of God. You will have strong temptation to associate with those who are worldly-minded, those whose advice and influence is not of a character to strengthen you in religious things. You will have inducements to follow your own inclinations. But you need not place yourself where the influence of your associates will make it difficult for you to distinguish between the sacred and the common. Be afraid to trust your inclinations. Do not make it impossible for the Lord to save your soul.Maranatha

Resist the enemy, do not be seduced by his flattering inducements and presentations. It is the work of the human agent to be strong in the Lord, not in his own finite strength, but in the power of His might. “Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” [Ephesians 6:11.] This is the work that man is called upon to do—to be continually on guard as a faithful sentinel, strong in God and in the power of His might.Ephesians 6:11-12

Satan’s plans and devices are soliciting us on every hand. We should ever remember that he comes to us in disguise, covering his motives and the character of his temptations. He comes in garments of light, clad apparently in pure, angel robes, that we may not discern that it is he. We need to use great caution, to closely investigate his devices, lest we be deceived. And we have a defense which we may use and be safe. “Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” [Ephesians 6:11.]12LtMs, Ms 34, 1897, par. 7
The apostle has said, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” [Verse 12.] We should individually study the nature, the character and extent of this spiritual wickedness in high places, lest we become the dupes of Satan. “The god of this world hath blinded the eyes of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.” [2 Corinthians 4:4.]My Life Today

Dear friends, we have a living Saviour, and He has not left us in this world to fight the battles alone. No. But He has not flattered us. He did not tell us, If you will believe on Me, you shall have no trials, no difficulties. He says, “If they receive you, they will receive Me. If they hate Me, they will hate you.” [See Matthew 10:40; John 15:18.] And He tells us that there shall be those “that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.” [John 16:2.] That is a terrible deception that comes on human minds. But here He has shown you the plan of the battle; He tells you what you are to meet. “We struggle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” [Ephesians 6:12.] This is what we have to meet. Then what does He say? “Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” [Verse 11.]Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 15 (1900)

The battle is strong. Take to yourselves individually the soldier’s uniform. Take every piece of the armor. Let not the interest or vigor flag, but bear in mind that you will have the heaviest kind of warfare. “We fight not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” For Christ’s sake “put on the whole armor of God, and having done all,” (that you can do to place yourselves in right relation to God) “stand.” [Ephesians 6:12, 11.]Testimonies for the Church, vol. 6

At these gatherings we must ever remember that two forces are at work. A battle unseen by human eyes is being waged. The army of the Lord is on the ground, seeking to save souls. Satan and his host are also at work, trying in every possible way to deceive and destroy. The Lord bids us: “Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:11, 12. Day by day the battle goes on. If our eyes could be opened to see the good and evil agencies at work, there would be no trifling, no vanity, no jesting or joking. If all would put on the whole armor of God and fight manfully the battles of the Lord, victories would be gained that would cause the kingdom of darkness to tremble. The Great Controversy

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” [Ephesians 6:11, 12.] How are we ever going to stand against these? It is the power of hell that we are to meet. And how are we to stand? You must take hold from above, and labor as did Christ, and have the self-sacrifice that He had. Then what does Christ say to these? Open the gates of the city of God that those who have kept My truth may enter in. Then He invites them to enter into what? “The joy of thy Lord.” [Matthew 25:21.] What is that? Who gave Himself for us that He might redeem us from all iniquity and purify unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works? Then what is the joy of the Lord? To see of the travail of His soul and be satisfied.Ephesians 6:11-13

The Testimonies are not a new creation of truth, but are given to the church to draw their minds to the Word, which all are in danger of forgetting. Old, old truths He makes as fresh and important as when they were first given and that He would have all practice. And having done all, to stand, and as the apostle has vividly presented the equipment we should put on as our safeguard—“put on the whole armor of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” [Ephesians 6:11.] And having done all, to stand.6LtMs, Ms 63, 1890, par. 5
There is a work for every soul individually to engage in. “Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace.” [Verses 14, 15.] There is the most definite preparedness given. With this instruction before not only young men and women whose names are inscribed upon the church books, but for ministers of the gospel who are, as messengers of truth, to set before all who are connected with the truth by precept and example, the Word of God in truth and righteousness is to be obeyed.Ephesians 6:11-17

Principles for the Guidance of Men in Positions of Responsibility
SpM 280.3
“The advice that was given to Moses when he was overburdened with cares and perplexities, is of the highest value today to those who are in positions of responsibility in God’s cause. The counsel given him should be carefully studied by those entrusted with the management of the work in the Lord’s vineyard. No one man or set of men is to have supreme authority to shape and to control the policy of the workers in the entire field, even with respect to the canvassing work; for every section of the country, especially the Southern field, which has been so long neglected, has its peculiar features, and must be worked accordingly. Let men be willing to understand these features and in their work for these fields prepare themselves by putting on every piece of the Christian armor, not forgetting to wear the gospel shoes.” The apostle says:—(Quoted, Ephesians 6:11-18.)Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 11 (1896)

The body is a most important medium through which the mind and the soul are developed for the upbuilding of character. Hence it is that the adversary of souls directs his temptations to the enfeebling and degrading of the physical powers. His success here often means the surrender of the whole being to evil. The tendencies of the physical nature, unless under the dominion of a higher power, will surely work ruin and death. The body is to be brought into subjection to the higher powers of the being. In Christ crucified we behold the manifestation of the wisdom and power of God, daily converting the soul and divinely adapted to meet all the obstacles and trials that come to us all in our daily experience. There is very little genuine faith in a personal Saviour who will help the soul in every emergency. Christ was crucified to take away our sins. Risen from the dead He is our Intercessor, our chosen and appointed Advocate, our Substitute and Surety in God’s presence. Through His blood every soul may have access to God. In Him humanity and divinity are combined. It is enough; all sufficiency is provided for every soul. The follower of Christ is fitted for every work and every trial. In his desire for virtue and holiness he is opposed at every step by the synagogue of Satan, and he has to engage in a personal, spiritual conflict. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against wicked spirits in high places” [Ephesians 6:12, margin].—Letter 76, 1894. PP 717.1
The Bible has little to say in praise of men. Little space is given to recounting the virtues of even the best men who have ever lived. This silence is not without purpose; it is not without a lesson. All the good qualities that men possess are the gift of God; their good deeds are performed by the grace of God through Christ. Since they owe all to God the glory of whatever they are or do belongs to Him alone; they are but instruments in His hands. More than this—as all the lessons of Bible history teach—it is a perilous thing to praise or exalt men; for if one comes to lose sight of his entire dependence on God, and to trust to his own strength, he is sure to fall. Man is contending with foes who are stronger than he. “We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against wicked spirits in high places.” Ephesians 6:12, margin. It is impossible for us in our own strength to maintain the conflict; and whatever diverts the mind from God, whatever leads to self-exaltation or to self-dependence, is surely preparing the way for our overthrow. The tenor of the Bible is to inculcate distrust of human power and to encourage trust in divine power.Prophets and Kings

We fight in a warfare, not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers, and against spiritual wickedness in high places. See Ephesians 6:12. With full assurance of faith we may expect that He will unite His omnipotence with the efforts of human instrumentalities, for the glory of His name. Clad with the armor of His righteousness, we may gain the victory over every foe.Prophets and Kings

We are soldiers of Christ; and those who enlist in His army are expected to do difficult work, work which will tax their energies to the utmost. We must understand that a soldier’s life is one of aggressive warfare, of perseverance and endurance. For Christ’s sake we are to endure trials. We are not engaged in mimic battles. We have to meet most powerful adversaries; for “we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12. We are to find our strength just where the early disciples found their strength: “These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication.” “And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. Christ did not tell His disciples that their work would be easy. He showed them the vast confederacy of evil arrayed against them. They would have to fight “against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12. But they would not be left to fight alone. He assured them that He would be with them; and that if they would go forth in faith, they should move under the shield of Omnipotence. He bade them be brave and strong; for One mightier than angels would be in their ranks—the General of the armies of heaven. He made full provision for the prosecution of their work and took upon Himself the responsibility of its success. So long as they obeyed His word, and worked in connection with Him, they could not fail. Go to all nations, He bade them. Go to the farthest part of the habitable globe and be assured that My presence will be with you even there. Labor in faith and confidence; for the time will never come when I will forsake you. I will be with you always, helping you to perform your duty, guiding, comforting, sanctifying, sustaining you, giving you success in speaking words that shall draw the attention of others to heaven. The Acts of the Apostles

Now the Saviour’s eye penetrates the future; He beholds the broader fields in which, after His death, the disciples are to be witnesses for Him. His prophetic glance takes in the experience of His servants through all the ages till He shall come the second time. He shows His followers the conflicts they must meet; He reveals the character and plan of the battle. He lays open before them the perils they must encounter, the self-denial that will be required. He desires them to count the cost, that they may not be taken unawares by the enemy. Their warfare is not to be waged against flesh and blood, but “against the principalities, against the powers, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:12, R. V. They are to contend with supernatural forces, but they are assured of supernatural help. All the intelligences of heaven are in this army. And more than angels are in the ranks. The Holy Spirit, the representative of the Captain of the Lord’s host, comes down to direct the battle. Our infirmities may be many, our sins and mistakes grievous; but the grace of God is for all who seek it with contrition. It is as true now as in apostolic days, that without the illumination of the divine Spirit, humanity cannot discern the glory of Christ. The truth and the work of God are unappreciated by a world-loving and compromising Christianity. Not in the ways of ease, of earthly honor or worldly conformity, are the followers of the Master found. They are far in advance, in the paths of toil, and humiliation, and reproach, in the front of the battle “against the principalities, against the powers, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:12, R. It is well that we fall into the hands of the living God and not into the hands of men. It is something that we should be grateful for that God, the all-wise, merciful God holds the golden scales that weigh character. As long as Satan lives there will not be apparent triumph to Christians, but continual conflict. But yet we are not to waver in our service to Jesus Christ. Our faces are toward the foe, warring “not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12.Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 6 (1889-1890)

When you assemble together, do not dishonor God by criticizing the worshippers and picking flaws in the characters of your brethren. Your work is between God and your own individual soul. What are you thinking of, my brethren? There is work to do in the saving of souls around you, and precious time is passing. The hours of probation will soon close. Is your work for the Master of that character that you will hear the “Well done, good and faithful servant”? [Matthew 25:21.] Remember that every soul making efforts in the divine life finds every inch of ground disputed by an antagonistic force and [that] he must gird himself for the conflict by earnest prayer and fight the good fight of faith. He is called to “wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” [Ephesians 6:12.] There is no strength to be invested in warring against each other. Here is our work, and Satan will come in through every avenue that is left unguarded to blind minds as to the true and vital interests that are at stake for this time. If he can becloud the minds of our responsible men, the leaven will work. They will not see nor understand the workings of God any more than did the Jews in the days when the greatest blessings were within their reach. By their impenitence, self-confidence, and self-righteousness they were closing the door to their peace. They were closing the door to their only hope, because they were unwilling to accept of God’s way and submit their minds and hearts to the light of truth.God’s Amazing Grace

It is no easy matter to gain the priceless treasure of eternal life. No one can do this and drift with the current of the world. He must come out from the world and be separate, and touch not the unclean. No one can act like worldlings without being carried down by the current of the world. No one will be borne upward without stern, persevering effort in the conflict. All must engage in this warfare for themselves; no one else can fight their battles. “We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” [Ephesians 6:12.] We have unseen foes to meet, evil men are agents for the powers of darkness to work through, and without spiritual discernment the soul will be ignorant of Satan’s devices, and be ensnared and stumble and fall. He who would overcome must hold fast to Christ. He must not look back, but keep the eye ever upward. Mount up by the Mediator, keeping hold of the Mediator, reaching upward to one line of work after another, making no provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof. The Christian life is a warfare. But “we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” (Ephesians 6:12). In this conflict of righteousness against unrighteousness we can be successful only by divine aid. Our finite will must be brought into submission to the will of the Infinite; the human will must be blended with the divine. This will bring the Holy Spirit to our aid....Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 9 (1894)

God sent Christ to be a representative of the Father. Men do not know Christ. They have their attention carried away by the various business things of this life. They have lost sight of eternity, and in the place of feeling that they are fighting against principalities and powers, they have forgotten God. What does it mean by principalities and powers? It is the synagogue of Satan. “Principalities and powers and the rulers of the darkness of this world, and spiritual wickedness in high places.” [Ephesians 6:12.] This is why men have been overcome. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood; but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against wicked spirits in high places.” [Ephesians 6:12.]Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 9 (1894)

Professor Prescott remarked that where there was the most said about being persecuted there was not always the teachable spirit. Reference was then made to Ephesians 6:12. And Sister White said, “Talk about schooling, it’s the Bible we want to be educated in. There is a great deal in that statement that we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual wickedness. Christ, when wrestling with Satan over the body of Moses, did not bring a railing accusation against him. He did nothing to stir up the powers of darkness. The body is a most important medium through which the mind and the soul are developed for the upbuilding of character. Hence it is that the adversary of souls directs his temptations to the enfeebling and degrading of the physical powers.... The body is to be brought into subjection to the higher powers of the being. The passions are to be controlled by the will, which is itself to be under the control of God.... Intellectual power, physical stamina, and the length of life depend upon immutable laws. Then, after the purchase of the land, they went to a lawyer for advice and following his advice brought legal complications that cost thousands of dollars. Had it not been for the lack of faith caused by the delay, this loss would not have come. At one time during the lawsuit that was carried on, our brethren were greatly perplexed to know what to do. It is as true now as in apostolic days, that without the illumination of the divine Spirit, humanity cannot discern the glory of Christ. The truth and the work of God are unappreciated by a world-loving and compromising Christianity. They are far in advance, in the paths of toil, and humiliation, and reproach, in the front of the battle “against the principalities, against the powers, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12, R. I gave a little talk to the church last Sabbath, telling them of the commission Christ gave to His disciples to labor for all people, tongues, and nations. There is no limit to our work, but we have a limited faith. I solicited out brethren and sisters to call upon the name of the Lord and pray most earnestly in genuine faith for the work and for the people for whom we work. If we obtain the victory we must be earnest ourselves and plead with God for His Holy Spirit. We must talk and pray in faith that we may have the precious anointment of the Holy Spirit. Brethren Hickox and Colcord and Starr, bear in mind the promise of divine agencies to work with our efforts, for this is needed, we know, when we have not to wrestle against flesh and blood, but “against principalities, and against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Tell them to put on the whole armor of God and engage in the warfare. “We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. At the time of the trouble in the church and college at Battle Creek, in 1882, I was in Healdsburg, California, and my soul was in agony as I pleaded with God to arouse His people that they might not be ignorant of Satan’s devices. God would have us see and realize the weakness and depravity of men, and put our entire trust in Him. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. All these decided awakenings in Battle Creek and in many other places show us that God is at work; but wherever God works we must not be ignorant of the fact that we “wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers; against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” [Ephesians 6:12, 13.] To men whom he desires to delude and ruin, Satan does not come as the outcast, apostate spirit, but he comes personating an angel of light and truth. Thus he came to Christ with his temptations to deceive our Substitute and Surety. Thus he comes to deceive every human being whom Christ has purchased. But our Saviour, in His assumed human nature, endured every test, and in resisting the seducing wiles of Satan has made it possible for man to overcome. Through being a partaker of the divine nature, we may escape the corruption that is in the world through lust.Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 9 (1894)

Climb the ladder of progress heavenward. Christ is the ladder, whose base is on the earth, and whose topmost round reaches to the highest heaven. God is above the ladder, and His glory is shining on every round. You must climb the ladder by clinging to Christ, and finally reach His everlasting kingdom. I pray you in the name of Christ, put on every piece of the armor of God, and fight manfully the battles of the Lord. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Step by step Christ descended the path of humility, pursued by the enemy. He wrestled not against “flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” This is our work, and therefore the exhortation is given, “Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” [Ephesians 6:12, 13.] In our fight we are barricaded by the ten commandments. “If ye do them,” says Christ, “ye shall live in them.” [See Leviticus 18:5.]Ephesians 6:12-14

I have been placed where I have heard reports borne in which there was scarcely a word of truth. May the Lord pity those who love and make a lie, for unless they change, they will at last find themselves outside the city of God. I am bidden to warn all who make untruthful statements that they are serving him who has been a liar from the beginning. Let us be on our guard against untruthfulness, which grows upon him who practices it. I say to all, Make truth your girdle. Be true to your faith. Put away all prevarication and exaggeration. Never make a false statement. For the sake of your own soul and the souls of others, be true in your utterances. Never speak or act a lie. Truth alone will bear to be repeated. A firm adherence to truth is essential to the formation of Christian character. “Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness.” [Ephesians 6:14.]Ephesians 6:12-15

Brethren and sisters, when these laborers and their companions have gone to foreign countries to work there, will you close up the ranks in the home Conference? Will you put on the Christian armor? “We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore,” the apostle Paul writes, “take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” [Ephesians 6:12, 13.] Will you stand firmly for the truth, even if your church is not often visited by a minister? I ask you, in the name of Jesus of Nazareth, to put on “the whole armor of God,” and to be sure to remember to wear the gospel shoes. Do not neglect to put them on. They will enable you to tread tremblingly, softly, in approaching the souls that you desire to lead to the Saviour.17LtMs, Ms 126, 1902, par. 51
“Your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace,” you will be prepared to walk from house to house, carrying the truth to the people. [Verse 15.] Sometimes you will find it a trying process to do this kind of work; but if you go forth in faith, the Lord will go before you, and will let His light shine upon your pathway. Entering the homes of your neighbors to sell or to give away our literature, and in humility to teach them the truth, you will be accompanied by the light of heaven, which will abide in these houses. Learn to sing the simplest of songs. These will help you to bring in the good influence of the Spirit of God to touch hearts. Christ was often heard singing hymns of praise; and yet I have heard persons say that “He never smiled.” How mistaken their ideas in regard to the Saviour! There was joy in His heart. We learn from the Word that there is joy among the heavenly angels over one soul converted to God, and that the Lord Himself rejoices over His church with singing. What a privilege it is to labor for the conversion of souls!Ephesians 6:12-17

Satan is watching to see you off guard, to see you stirred up to act impetuously, that he may obtain the advantage to sift you as wheat. I know that severe trials have come upon you. I know, for I have been shown occasions where you acted in words and spirit to please the enemy and to grieve heavenly angels. But it is of no use to write more about this; for it is better imagined than described. I am sure Satan, with his hellish agencies, is striving his best to dishearten and discourage; but we must not be discouraged, neither must we fail. We must suffer loss, and be spoken against; and have false witness borne against us, and take it patiently for Christ’s sake. One thing is sure—God is true. We may lean heavily on Him, and we shall not become confused amid the babel of voices. We must put the armor on, and keep it on. Then what? Fight manfully the battles of the Lord, and “having done all, to stand,” ready for another conflict. [Ephesians 6:13.] We must keep in harness, <taking> the whole armor of God. Brother Jones, you have been led to take steps in business transactions that are not right. You have erred in judgment. Closely investigate all your business transactions; for we are living in the day of judgment, when every case is to be tried. Every weakness, every misleading transaction should now be repented of and forgiveness earnestly sought. Search for the selfishness that has developed, and examine it in the clear light of the Word of God. And then make these things right if you would stand acquitted in that great day when every man shall be judged according to his works. God expects a man who has had the experience that you have had to stand as a veteran in His army. He calls upon His people to stand, and having done all, to stand. What is meant [by] “all”? The doctrines must be plainly understood. The men accepted to teach the truth must be anchored; then their vessel will hold against storm and tempest, because the anchor holds them firmly. The Christian graces are given not as ornaments to win admiration, but as talents to be used in accomplishing a work for God. We are to heed the words of Paul, “Quit you like men, be strong.” [1 Corinthians 16:13.] “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might. Nehemiah’s experience in connection with the rebuilding of Jerusalem teaches lessons that will be needed by God’s people as long as time shall last. The times call for men of strength and decision of character. Paul says, “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” [Ephesians 6:10, 11.] The enemy will mingle his evil with every good work that is done, if the workers are not on guard. Thus he seeks to spoil God’s purposes. “We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. We prize very highly the old soldiers of the cross. The messengers of God who have been in the work from the passing of the time in 1844 have seen the truth established and settled. Their experience we highly appreciate. These men are to be sustained in their work.
