Context of Song of Songs 6:12
10Who is this that appears like dawn? As beautiful as the moon, bright as the sun, awesome as an army with banners. 11I went down into the garden of nut trees to look at the fruit of the valley, to see if the vine had budded, or the pomegranates had bloomed. Before I was aware, my soul set me among the chariots of my princely people.

Commentaries on Song of Songs 6:12
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 12The chariots of Amminadib - Probably for their great speed these chariots became proverbial. The passage marks a strong agitation of mind, and something like what we term palpitation of the heart. As I am not aware of any spiritual meaning here, I must be excused from commenting on that which is literal. Amminadib signifies my noble or princely people; but it may here be a proper name, and Amminadib might be celebrated for his skill and rapidity in…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 11-13Verses 11-13 In retirement and in meditation the Christian character is formed and perfected. But not in the retirement of the idle, the self-indulgent, or the trifler. When the Christian is released from the discharge of his duties in life, the world has no attractions for him. His prayer is, that all things belonging to the Spirit may live and grow within him, and around him. Such are the interesting cares and employments of him whom the world wrongly…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 12among the royal chariots of my people: Desire leads to the union of a man and a woman. This may suggest Solomon is the husband, though it could also be a metaphor for the joys of romance (compare Song of Solomon 1:16–17).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1212. Sudden outpourings of the Spirit on Pentecost (Ac 2:1-13), while the Church was using the means (answering to "the garden," So 6:11; Joh 3:8). Ammi-nadib--supposed to me one proverbial for swift driving. Similarly (So 1:9). Rather, "my willing people" (Psa 110:3). A willing chariot bore a "willing people"; or Nadib is the Prince, Jesus Christ (Psa 68:17). She is borne in a moment into His presence (Ep 2:6).Read the comment
- Rashi on Tanakh · v. 12I did not know The congregation of Israel laments: I did not know to beware of sin, that I should retain my honor and my greatness, and I erred in the matter of groundless hatred and controversy, which intensified during the reign of the Hasmonean kings, Hyrcanus and Aristobulus, until one of them brought the kingdom of Rome and received the kingship from their hand and became their vassal, and since then, my soul made me to be chariots, that the nobility…Read the comment
