Context of Luke 14:2

1Now when Yeshua went into the home of one of the leaders of the Pharisees to eat a meal on Shabbat, they were watching Him closely. And there before Him was a man swollen with fluid. 3So Yeshua said to the Torah lawyers and the Pharisees, “Is it permitted to heal on Shabbat, or not?” 4But they kept silent. So Yeshua took hold of him and healed him, and He sent him away.

If this were the case, and it is likely, how deep must have been the…Read the comment
• Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 2A certain man before him - In what way he came there we know not. He might have been one of the Pharisee‘s family, or might have been placed there by the Pharisees to see whether he would heal him. This last supposition is not improbable, since it is said in Luke 14:1 that they watched him. The dropsy - A disease produced by the accumulation of water in various parts of the body; very distressing, and commonly incurable.Read the comment
