Context of Ezekiel 2:3
1Then He said to me: “Son of man, stand on your feet, and I will speak with you.” 2As He spoke to me, the Ruach came upon me and stood me up on my feet. I heard Him speaking to me again. He said to me, “Son of man, I send you to Bnei-Yisrael, to rebellious nations that have been rebelling against Me. They and their fathers have rebelled against Me to this very day. 4The children have hard faces and stubborn hearts. I am sending you to them, and you are to tell them, ‘Thus says Adonai Elohim.’ 5Whether they listen, or whether they will refuse to listen—for they are a rebellious house—they will know that a prophet was among them.

Commentaries on Ezekiel 2:3
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 3Son of man - This appellative, so often mentioned in this book, seems to have been given first to this prophet; afterwards to Daniel; and after that to the Man Christ Jesus. Perhaps it was given to the two former to remind them of their frailty, and that they should not be exalted in their own minds by the extraordinary revelations granted to them; and that they should feel themselves of the same nature with those to whom they were sent; and, from the…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 3Nation - literally, as in the margin - the word which usually distinguishes the pagan from God‘s people. Here it expresses that Israel is cast off by God; and the plural is used to denote that the children of Israel are not even “one nation,” but scattered and disunited. Translate: “I send thee to the children of Israel, the rebellious nation that have rebelled against Me (they and their fathers have transgressed against Me, even to this very day), and…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 3The Lord often addressed Ezekiel as son of man. In Hebrew, this phrase is ben-’adam, which means "son of Adam." It can also mean “human being.” This title reminded Ezekiel that he was human. He stood before heavenly beings, but he was different from them. He was a mortal person, created from the dust of the earth The title also set Ezekiel apart from the people of Israel. The Bible often calls them “sons of Israel.” They were descendants of Jacob, whose…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 33. nation--rather, "nations"; the word usually applied to the heathen or Gentiles; here to the Jews, as being altogether heathenized with idolatries. So in Is 1:10, they are named "Sodom" and "Gomorrah." They were now become "Lo-ammi," not the people of God (Ho 1:9).Read the comment
