Context of 2 Chronicles 26:21
19Then Uzziah, who had a censer in his hand ready to burn incense, became angry. While he was raging at the kohanim tza'arat broke out on his forehead right in front of the kohanim in the House of Adonai, beside the incense altar. 20When Azariah the chief kohen and all the other kohanim stared at him, behold, his forehead had tza'arat! So they rushed him out of there. Indeed, he himself hurried to get out because Adonai had smitten him. King Uzziah had tza’arat until the day of his death. He lived in a separate house with tza'arat, for he was cut off from the House of Adonai. Jotham his son was in charge of the king’s house and governed the people of the land. 22Now the rest of the acts of Uzziah, from beginning to end, were recorded by the prophet Isaiah, the son of Amoz. 23So Uzziah slept with his fathers and they buried him with his fathers in the field of burial that belonged to the kings, for they said: “He had tza'arat.” Then Jotham his son became king in his place.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 16-23Verses 16-23 The transgression of the kings before Uzziah was, forsaking the temple of the Lord, and burning incense upon idolatrous altars. But his transgression was, going into the holy place, and attempting to burn incense upon the altar of God. See how hard it is to avoid one extreme, and not run into another. Pride of heart was at the bottom of his sin; a lust that ruins many. Instead of lifting up the name God in gratitude to him who had done so…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 21Leprosy forced King Uzziah to spend his final years in quarantine in isolation (literally a free house). The meaning of this term is unclear; it often suggests he was free from royal duties. In Ugaritic texts, it appears to be a way to suggest a place of complete confinement.Read the comment

Rage and threats were the only answers he deigned to return, but God took care to…Read the comment
