Context of 1 Samuel 10:15
13When he finished prophesying, he came to the high place. 14Now Saul’s uncle asked him and his servant, “Where did you go?” And he said, “To look for the donkeys. But when we saw that they could not be found, we went to Samuel.” Saul’s uncle said, “Tell me now, what did Samuel say to you?” 16“He assured us that the donkeys had been found,” Saul said to his uncle. But concerning the matter of kingship about which Samuel spoke, he told him nothing. 17Then Samuel summoned the people to Adonai at Mizpah.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 9-16Verses 9-16 The signs Samuel had given Saul, came to pass punctually; he found that God had given him another heart, another disposition of mind. He leaves it to God to carry on his own work by Samuel, and sits still, to see how the matter will fall.Read the comment

- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1-271Sa 10:1-27. Samuel Anoints Saul, and Confirms Him by the Prediction of Three Signs. 1. Then Samuel took a vial of oil--This was the ancient (Jud 9:8) ceremony of investiture with the royal office among the Hebrews and other Eastern nations. But there were two unctions to the kingly office; the one in private, by a prophet (1Sa 16:13), which was meant to be only a prophetic intimation of the person attaining that high dignity--the more public and formal…Read the comment
