Context of 1 Chronicles 7:3
1The sons of Issachar: Tola, Puah, Jashub and Shimron—four. 2The sons of Tola were Uzzi, Rephaiah, Jeriel, Jahmai, Ibsam and Shemuel, heads of their clans. The descendants of Tola were mighty men of valor; their number in the days of David was 22,600. The son of Uzzi was Izrahiah, and the sons of Izrahiah: Michael, Obadiah, Joel, Isshiah—all five of them were leaders. 4Along with them, by their generations after their clans were 36,000 troops of the army for battle, for they had many wives and sons. 5Their kinsmen among all the families of Issachar by genealogical records were mighty men of valor—87,700.

Commentaries on 1 Chronicles 7:3
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 3The sons of Izrahiah - five - There are, however, only four names in the text. Instead of five, the Syriac and Arabic read four. If five be the true reading, then Izrahiah must be reckoned with his four sons.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-40This chapter provides the genealogies of the remaining tribes of Israel. The sections on the tribes of Issachar, Benjamin, and Asher may come from a military census. These lists are almost the same length, use military terms, record the father's houses, and do not mention settlements. The tribes of Zebulun and Dan are completely omitted, and Naphtali has only a short record.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 33. five: all of them chief men--Four only are mentioned; so that as they are stated to be five, in this number the father, Izrahiah, must be considered as included; otherwise one of the names must have dropped out of the text. They were each at the head of a numerous and influential division of their tribe.Read the comment
