Context of Jeremiah 22:3
1Thus saith the LORD; Go down to the house of the king of Judah, and speak there this word, 2And say, Hear the word of the LORD, O king of Judah, that sittest upon the throne of David, thou, and thy servants, and thy people that enter by these gates: Thus saith the LORD; Execute ye judgment and righteousness, and deliver him that is laid waste out of the hand of the oppressor: and do no wrong, do no violence to the stranger, the fatherless, nor the widow, neither shed innocent blood in this place. 4For if ye do this thing indeed, then shall there enter by the gates of this house kings sitting upon the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, he, and his servants, and his people. 5But if ye will not hear these words, I swear by myself, saith the LORD, that this house shall become a desolation.

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 3Judah's leaders acted unfairly and unjustly. They did not help robbery victims or rescue the oppressed. They mistreated foreigners, orphans, and widows (see Isaiah 58:6–7; Micah 6:8; Zechariah 7:9–10; 8:16–17; Matthew 23:23).Read the comment

Jehoiakim is meant here especially: he, by oppression, levied the tribute imposed on him by Pharaoh-necho, king of Egypt (2Ch 36:3), and taxed his people, and took their labor without pay, to build gorgeous palaces for himself (Jr 22:13-17), and shed innocent blood, for example, that of Urijah the prophet (Jr 26:20-24; 2Ki 23:35; 24:4).Read the comment
