Context of Ezekiel 13:14
12Lo, when the wall hath fallen, shall it not be said to you, Where is the daubing with which ye have daubed it ? 13Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; I will even rend it with a stormy wind in my fury; and there shall be an overflowing shower in my anger, and great hailstones in my fury to consume it . So will I break down the wall that ye have daubed with untempered mortar, and bring it down to the ground, so that its foundation shall be made bare, and it shall fall, and ye shall be consumed in the midst of it: and ye shall know that I am the LORD. 15Thus will I accomplish my wrath upon the wall, and upon them that have daubed it with untempered mortar, and will say to you, The wall is no more, neither they that daubed it; 16That is, the prophets of Israel who prophesy concerning Jerusalem, and who see visions of peace for her, and there is no peace, saith the Lord GOD.

Commentaries on Ezekiel 13:14
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 10-16Verses 10-16 One false prophet built the wall, set up the notion that Jerusalem should be victorious, and made himself acceptable by it. Others made the matter yet more plausible and promising; they daubed the wall which the first had built; but they would, ere long, be undeceived when their work was beaten down by the storm of God's just wrath; when the Chaldean army desolated the land. Hopes of peace and happiness, not warranted by the word of God, will…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 10-16The people's "righteousness" was like a weak wall ready to fall. Instead of urging the people to repent and build their wall properly, the false prophets just painted over it. They told the people that peace would come to Jerusalem. This made the wall look stronger than it was. A heavy rainstorm would reveal its true weakness. Water would seep into the unsealed cracks, wash away the mortar, and cause the stones to fall. In this case, the storm would be…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1414. The repetition of the same threat (see on Eze 13:11) is to awaken the people out of their dream of safety by the certainty of the event. foundation--As the "wall" represents the security of the nation, so the "foundation" is Jerusalem, on the fortifications of which they rested their confidence. Grotius makes the "foundation" refer to the false principles on which they rested; Eze 13:16 supports the former view.Read the comment
