Context of Amos 9:14
12That they may possess the remnant of Edom, and of all the heathen, who are called by my name, saith the LORD that doeth this. 13Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him that soweth seed; and the mountains shall drop sweet wine, and all the hills shall melt. And I will bring again the captivity of my people of Israel, and they shall build the waste cities, and inhabit them ; and they shall plant vineyards, and drink the wine of them; they shall also make gardens, and eat the fruit of them. 15And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land which I have given them, saith the LORD thy God.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 14They shall plant vineyards, and drink the wine - When threatened with great evils, Amos 5:11, it is said, "They shall plant pleasant vineyards but shall not drink the wine of them." - Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 14And I will bring again the captivity of My people - Where all around is spiritual, there is no reason to take this alone as earthly. An earthly restoration to Canaan had no value, except as introductory to the spiritual. Verses #(13-15) may refer to the early times of Christianity, but will receive a more glorious fulfilment in the events which all the prophets more or less foretold, and may be…Read the comment
