Context of Psalms 119:60
58I entreated thy favour with my whole heart: be merciful unto me according to thy word. 59I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto thy testimonies. I made haste, and delayed not, to observe thy commandments. 61The cords of the wicked have wrapped me round; but I have not forgotten thy law. 62At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto thee because of thy righteous judgments.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 60Thirdly. I made haste, and delayed not - He did this with the utmost speed; and did not trifle with his convictions, nor seek to drown the voice of conscience. The original word, which we translate delayed not, is amazingly emphatical. התמהמהתי ולא velo hithmahmahti, I did not stand what-what-whating; or, as we used to express the same sentiment, shilly-shallying with myself: I was determined, and so set out. The Hebrew word, as well as the English…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 60I made haste - This language further describes the process of conversion. There was no delay; there was no excuse offered. He acted at once under his conviction of what was right. He did not ask permission to defer it to a future time; he did not attempt to avoid the duty; not plead inability; he did not give himself merely to the “use of means;” he did not rely on prayer, and reading, and reflection; but “he did the thing, and he did it at once.” This is…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 57-64Verses 57-64 True believers take the Lord for the portion of their inheritance, and nothing less will satisfy them. The psalmist prayed with his whole heart, knowing how to value the blessing he prayed for: he desired the mercy promised, and depended on the promise for it. He turned from by-paths, and returned to God's testimonies. He delayed not. It behoves sinners to hasten to escape; and the believer will be equally in haste to glorify God. No care or…Read the comment
