Context of Leviticus 15:2
1And Yhwh spake unto Moses and to Aaron, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When any man hath a running issue out of his flesh, because of his issue he is unclean. 3And this shall be his uncleanness in his issue: whether his flesh run with his issue, or his flesh be stopped from his issue, it is his uncleanness. 4Every bed, whereon he lieth that hath the issue, is unclean: and every thing, whereon he sitteth, shall be unclean.

Commentaries on Leviticus 15:2
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 2When any man hath a running issue - The cases of natural uncleanness, both of men and women, mentioned in this chapter, taken in a theological point of view, are not of such importance to us as to render a particular description necessary, the letter of the text being, in general, plain enough. The disease mentioned in the former part of this chapter appears to some to have been either the consequence of a very bad infection, or of some criminal…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 2bodily discharge (literally a flowing from his flesh): Most scholars think the word flesh refers to sexual organs, suggesting an infection like gonorrhea. Others believe it might mean a discharge of semen or even diarrhea. But a discharge of semen is improbable because it is specifically mentioned in Leviticus 15:16–17 and only requires washing with water. It is clear that this bodily discharge came from "under him" (15:10). It contaminated anything he…Read the comment

When any man hath a running issue--This chapter describes other forms of uncleanness, the nature of which is sufficiently intelligible in the text without any explanatory comment. Being the effects of licentiousness, they properly come within the notice of the legislator, and the very stringent rules here prescribed, both for the separation of the person diseased and for avoiding contamination from anything connected with him, were well calculated not…Read the comment
