Context of Jeremiah 3:10
8And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also. 9And it came to pass through the lightness of her whoredom, that she defiled the land, and committed adultery with stones and with stocks. And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah hath not turned unto me with her whole heart, but feignedly, saith Yhwh. 11And Yhwh said unto me, The backsliding Israel hath justified herself more than treacherous Judah. 12Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith Yhwh; and I will not cause mine anger to fall upon you: for I am merciful, saith Yhwh, and I will not keep anger for ever.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 6-11Verses 6-11 If we mark the crimes of those who break off from a religious profession, and the consequences, we see abundant reason to shun evil ways. It is dreadful to be proved more criminal than those who have actually perished in their sins; yet it will be small comfort in everlasting punishment, for them to know that others were viler than they.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 10Like the northern tribes of Israel, the people of Judah did not see idol worship as immoral. They ignored the Lord’s objections. The people did not truly repent; they only pretended under Josiah’s authority (2 Chronicles 34:32). Their religion was full of deception (Jeremiah 12:2; Hosea 7:14).Read the comment
