Context of Deuteronomy 10:6
4And he wrote on the tables, according to the first writing, the ten commandments, which Yhwh spake unto you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly: And Yhwh gave them unto me. 5And I turned myself and came down from the mount, and put the tables in the ark which I had made; and there they be, as Yhwh commanded me. And the children of Israel took their journey from Beeroth of the children of Jaakan to Mosera: there Aaron died, and there he was buried; and Eleazar his son ministered in the priest’s office in his stead. 7From thence they journeyed unto Gudgodah; and from Gudgodah to Jotbath, a land of rivers of waters. 8At that time Yhwh separated the tribe of Levi, to bear the ark of the covenant of Yhwh, to stand before Yhwh to minister unto him, and to bless in his name, unto this day.

The people are reminded that all their blessings and privileges, forfeited by apostasy as soon as bestowed, were only now their own by a new and most unmerited act of grace on the part of God, won from Him by the self-sacrificing mediation of Moses himself Deuteronomy 10:10. - Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 6-96-9. the children of Israel took their journey from Beeroth of the children of Jaakan to Mosera--So sudden a change from a spoken discourse to a historical narrative has greatly puzzled the most eminent biblical scholars, some of whom reject the parenthesis as a manifest interpolation. But it is found in the most ancient Hebrew manuscripts, and, believing that all contained in this book was given by inspiration and is entitled to profound respect, we must…Read the comment
