Context of 2 Kings 16:19
17And king Ahaz cut off the borders of the bases, and removed the laver from off them; and took down the sea from off the brasen oxen that were under it, and put it upon a pavement of stones. 18And the covert for the sabbath that they had built in the house, and the king’s entry without, turned he from the house of Yhwh for the king of Assyria. Now the rest of the acts of Ahaz which he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 20And Ahaz slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David: and Hezekiah his son reigned in his stead.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 17-20Verses 17-20 Ahaz put contempt upon the sabbath, and thus opened a wide inlet to all manner of sin. This he did for the king of Assyria. When those who have had a ready passage to the house of the Lord, turn it another way to please their neighbours, they are going down-hill apace to ruin.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 19the rest of the acts of Ahaz: Ahaz rejected the Lord by removing and destroying the temple's utensils (2 Chronicles 28:24). He closed the temple and stopped its services, promoting pagan practices instead (2 Chronicles 28:25; 29:7). Ahaz's complete change in Judah's worship was similar to Jeroboam I's actions (see 2 Kings 3:3; 13:2; 16:2–4; 17:21; 1 Kings 12:25–33; 16:26; 22:52).Read the comment
