Context of 1 Kings 8:52
50And forgive thy people that have sinned against thee, and all their transgressions wherein they have transgressed against thee, and give them compassion before them who carried them captive, that they may have compassion on them: 51For they be thy people, and thine inheritance, which thou broughtest forth out of Egypt, from the midst of the furnace of iron: That thine eyes may be open unto the supplication of thy servant, and unto the supplication of thy people Israel, to hearken unto them in all that they call for unto thee. 53For thou didst separate them from among all the people of the earth, to be thine inheritance, as thou spakest by the hand of Moses thy servant, when thou broughtest our fathers out of Egypt, O Lord Yhwh. 54And it was so, that when Solomon had made an end of praying all this prayer and supplication unto Yhwh, he arose from before the altar of Yhwh, from kneeling on his knees with his hands spread up to heaven.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 22-53Verses 22-53 In this excellent prayer, Solomon does as we should do in every prayer; he gives glory to God. Fresh experiences of the truth of God's promises call for larger praises. He sues for grace and favour from God. The experiences we have of God's performing his promises, should encourage us to depend upon them, and to plead them with him; and those who expect further mercies, must be thankful for former mercies. God's promises must be the guide of…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 52-53Solomon ended his prayer of dedication by asking God to be available to all of Israel and to answer their prayers. Referring back to when God brought the Israelites out of Egypt (1 Kings 8:16), Solomon reminded God that he chose Israel as his special people (Exodus 19:5; Deuteronomy 7:6; 14:1–2; 26:18; Psalm 135:4; see also Titus 2:11–14; 1 Peter 2:9–10).Read the comment
