Context of Isaiah 6:2
1It was in the year King Uzziah died that I saw the Lord. He was sitting on a lofty throne, and the train of his robe filled the Temple. Attending him were mighty seraphim, each having six wings. With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they flew. 3They were calling out to each other, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of Heaven’s Armies! The whole earth is filled with his glory!” 4Their voices shook the Temple to its foundations, and the entire building was filled with smoke.

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 2The mighty seraphim are heavenly beings not mentioned elsewhere in Scripture (though similar living creatures appear in Revelation 4:6–9; 15:8). The Hebrew term seraphim may be related to a word that means “to burn.” This suggests an association with fire. Their name may point to their shining or fiery nature. In Isaiah’s vision, each seraph had six wings. With two wings they covered their faces. This showed reverence and humility. Even these powerful…Read the comment
