Context of Psalms 110:2

1Here is the Lord’s proclamation to my lord: “Sit down at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool!” The Lord extends your dominion from Zion. Rule in the midst of your enemies! 3Your people willingly follow you when you go into battle. On the holy hills at sunrise the dew of your youth belongs to you. 4The Lord makes this promise on oath and will not revoke it: “You are an eternal priest after the pattern of Melchizedek.”

• Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 2The rod of thy strength - The Gospel - the doctrine of Christ crucified; which is the powerful scepter of the Lord that bought us, is quick and powerful, sharper than any two-edged sword; and is the power of God to salvation to all them that believe. The kingdom of our Lord was to be founded in Zion, and thence, by gradual conquests, to be extended over the whole earth. It was in Zion the preaching of the Gospel first began; and it is by the Gospel that…Read the comment
