Context of Job 41:9
7Can you fill its hide with harpoons or its head with fishing spears? 8If you lay your hand on it, you will remember the fight, and you will never do it again! (41:1) See, his expectation is wrong, he is laid low even at the sight of it. 10Is it not fierce when it is awakened? Who is he, then, who can stand before it? 11(Who has confronted me that I should repay? Everything under heaven belongs to me!)

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 9Behold, the hope of him is in vain - That is, the hope of taking him is vain. Shall not one be cast down even at the sight of him? - So formidable is his appearance, that the courage of him who would attack him is daunted, and his resolution fails. This agrees well also with the crocodile. There is perhaps scarcely any animal whose appearance would be more likely to deter one from attacking him.Read the comment
