Context of Isaiah 10:28
26The Lord who commands armies is about to beat them with a whip, similar to the way he struck down Midian at the rock of Oreb. He will use his staff against the sea, lifting it up as he did in Egypt. 27At that time the Lord will remove their burden from your shoulders, and their yoke from your neck; the yoke will be taken off because your neck will be too large. They attacked Aiath, moved through Migron, depositing their supplies at Micmash. 29They went through the pass, spent the night at Geba. Ramah trembled, Gibeah of Saul ran away. 30Shout out, daughter of Gallim! Pay attention, Laishah! Answer her, Anathoth!

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 28He is come to Aiath - A description of the march of Sennacherib's army approaching Jerusalem in order to invest it, and of the terror and confusion spreading and increasing through the several places as he advanced; expressed with great brevity, but finely diversified. The places here mentioned are all in the neighborhood of Jerusalem; from Ai northward, to Nob westward of it; from which last place he might probably have a prospect of Mount Sion. Anathoth…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 28He is come to Aiath - These verses Isaiah 10:28-32 contain a description of the march of the army of Sennacherib as he approached Jerusalem to invest it. The description is expressed with great beauty. It is rapid and hurried, and is such as one would give who was alarmed by the sudden and near approach of an enemy - as if while the narrator was stating that the invader had arrived at one place, he had already come to another; or, as if while one…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 20-34Verses 20-34 By our afflictions we may learn not to make creatures our confidence. Those only can with comfort stay upon God, who return to him in truth, not in pretence and profession only. God will justly bring this wasting away on a provoking people, but will graciously set bounds to it. It is against the mind and will of God, that his people, whatever happens, should give way to fear. God's anger against his people is but for a moment; and when that…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 28-34Assyria has entered Aiath: Isaiah 10:29–32 describes the march of the Assyrian army in poetic language. The cities are listed in order from the north toward Jerusalem. The army moves closer and closer to the city. When they reach Jerusalem, they are forced to stop and retreat. God was with Jerusalem. Because of this, Assyria would not succeed. In time, Assyria itself would be destroyed. This passage may refer to Sennacherib’s invasion in 701 BC (see…Read the comment
