Context of 2 Kings 15:11
9He did evil in the sight of the Lord, as his ancestors had done. He did not repudiate the sinful ways of Jeroboam son of Nebat who encouraged Israel to sin. 10Shallum son of Jabesh conspired against him; he assassinated him in Ibleam and took his place as king. The rest of the events of Zechariah’s reign are recorded in the scroll called the Annals of the Kings of Israel. 12His assassination brought to fulfillment the Lord’s word to Jehu, “Four generations of your descendants will rule over Israel.” That is exactly what happened. 13Shallum son of Jabesh became king in the thirty-ninth year of King Uzziah’s reign over Judah. He reigned for one month in Samaria.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 8-31Verses 8-31 This history shows Israel in confusion. Though Judah was not without troubles, yet that kingdom was happy, compared with the state of Israel. The imperfections of true believers are very different from the allowed wickedness of ungodly men. Such is human nature, such are our hearts, if left to themselves, deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked. - Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 8-12Zechariah, the son of Jeroboam II, was not as skilled as his father. Zechariah continued the wrongdoings that the first Jeroboam had led Israel to commit. God had promised Jehu a royal line lasting four generations (2 Kings 10:30). Zechariah's six-month reign completed that promise.Read the comment
