Context of Psalms 97:10
8Zion hears about this and rejoices. The people of Judah are delighted with your judgments, O Lord. 9You, O Lord, the Most High, are above the whole earth. You are highest. You are above all the gods. Let those who love the Lord hate evil. The one who guards the lives of his godly ones will rescue them from the power of wicked people. 11Light dawns for righteous people and joy for those whose motives are decent. 12Find joy in the Lord, you righteous people. Give thanks to him as you remember how holy he is.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 10Ye that love the Lord hate evil - Because it is inconsistent with his love to you, as well as your love to him. He preserveth the souls of his saints - The saints, חסידיו chasidaiv, his merciful people: their souls - lives, are precious in his sight. He preserves them; keeps them from every evil, and every enemy. Out of the hand of the wicked - From his power and influence.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 10Ye that love the Lord, hate evil - Show your love for the Lord “by” hating all that is evil; that is, all that he hates, or that is evil in his sight. There can be no true love for God where evil is not hated in all its forms, since it is the object of the divine abhorrence. We cannot be like God unless we love what he loves, and hate what he hates. There is nothing more clearly affirmed in the Scriptures than that in order to the love of God there must…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 8-12Verses 8-12 The faithful servants of God may well rejoice and be glad, because he is glorified; and whatever tends to his honour, is his people's pleasure. Care is taken for their safety. But something more is meant than their lives. The Lord will preserve the souls of his saints from sin, from apostacy, and despair, under their greatest trials. He will deliver them out of the hands of the wicked one, and preserve them safe to his heavenly kingdom. And…Read the comment
