Context of Joshua 11:12
10Then Joshua turned back and captured Hazor. He killed its king with a sword. (Hazor was formerly the head of all these kingdoms.) 11They claimed everyone for the Lord by destroying them with swords. Not one person survived. Joshua also burned Hazor. So Joshua captured all these cities and their kings. He claimed them for the Lord by destroying them, as the Lord’s servant Moses had commanded him. 13Israel did not burn cities built on mounds. However, Joshua made an exception and burned Hazor. 14The people of Israel took all the loot and livestock from these cities. But they put everyone to death until they were all destroyed. Not one person survived.

Commentaries on Joshua 11:12
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 10-14Verses 10-14 The Canaanites filled up the measure of their iniquity, and were, as a judgment, left to the pride, obstinacy, and enmity of their hearts, and to the power of Satan; all restraints being withdrawn, while the dispensations of Providence tended to drive them to despair. They brought on themselves the vengeance they justly merited, of which the Israelites were to be executioners, by the command the Lord gave to Moses.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-16The detailed accounts of Joshua’s campaign in southern Canaan show that the Israelites needed God's help to succeed (chapters 6–10). The same was true for the northern campaign (chapter 11). So those details were not needed here.Read the comment
