Context of Job 35:11
9The weight of oppression makes them cry out. The power of mighty people makes them call for help. 10But no one asks, ‘Where is God, my Creator, who inspires songs in the night, who teaches us more than he teaches the animals of the earth, who makes us wiser than the birds in the sky?’ 12Then they cry out, but he doesn’t answer them because of the arrogance of ⌞those⌟ evil people. 13“Surely, God doesn’t listen to idle complaints. The Almighty doesn’t even pay attention to them.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 11Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth - Who is able to teach us mere than the irrational creation; that is, in regard to the nature and design of affliction. They suffer without knowing why. They are subjected to toil and hardships; endure pain, and die, without any knowledge why all this occurs, and without any rational view of the government and plans of God. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 9-13Verses 9-13 Job complained that God did not regard the cries of the oppressed against their oppressors. This he knew not how to reconcile the justice of God and his government. Elihu solves the difficulty. Men do not notice the mercies they enjoy in and under their afflictions, nor are thankful for them, therefore they cannot expect that God should deliver them out of affliction. He gives songs in the night; when our condition is dark and melancholy…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 10-1310-13. But the reason is that the innocent sufferers often do not humbly seek God for succor; so to their "pride" is to be laid the blame of their ruin; also because (Job 35:13-16) they, as Job, instead of waiting God's time in pious trust, are prone to despair of His justice, when it is not immediately visible (Job 33:19-26). If the sufferer would apply to God with a humbled, penitent spirit, He would hear. Where, &c.--(Jr 2:6, 8; Is 51:13). songs--of…Read the comment
