Context of Job 34:27
25He knows what they do, so he overthrows them at night, and they’re crushed. 26In return for their evil, he strikes them in public, because they turned away from following him and didn’t consider any of his ways. 28They forced the poor to cry out to him, and he hears the cry of those who suffer. 29If he keeps quiet, who can condemn him? If he hides his face, who can see him whether it is a nation or a single person?

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 27Because they turned back from him - Margin, “from after him.” That is, they receded, or went away from God. And would not consider any of his ways - They would not regard or attend to any of his commands. The “ways of God” denote his course or plan, his precepts or laws; and to depart from them, or to…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 16-30Verses 16-30 Elihu appeals directly to Job himself. Could he suppose that God was like those earthly princes, who hate right, who are unfit to rule, and prove the scourges of mankind? It is daring presumption to condemn God's proceedings, as Job had done by his discontents. Elihu suggests divers considerations to Job, to produce in him high thoughts of God, and so to persuade him to submit. Job had often wished to plead his cause before God. Elihu asks…Read the comment
