Context of Job 1:13
11But now stretch out your hand, and strike everything he has. I bet he’ll curse you to your face.” 12The Lord told Satan, “Everything he has is in your power, but you must not lay a hand on him!” Then Satan left the Lord’s presence. One day when Job’s sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s home, 14a messenger came to Job. He said, “While the oxen were plowing and the donkeys were grazing nearby, 15men from Sheba attacked. They took the livestock and massacred the servants. I’m the only one who has escaped to tell you.”

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 13-19Verses 13-19 Satan brought Job's troubles upon him on the day that his children began their course of feasting. The troubles all came upon Job at once; while one messenger of evil tidings was speaking, another followed. His dearest and most valuable possessions were his ten children; news is brought him that they are killed. They were taken away when he had most need of them to comfort him under other losses. In God only have we a help present at all…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 13-19These attacks took away the blessings listed in 1:2–3. Job was left with four messengers who came to report terrible news and a wife who gave poor advice. The phrase "While he was still speaking" emphasizes the repeated nature of the attacks (see Jeremiah 51:31).
